The people of Tennessee and Georgia had a big surprise Wednesday morning: the earthquake caused an earthquake.

A magnitude 4.4 earthquake was recorded by the US Geological Survey at about 4:14 pm (eastern time), the near epicenter of Decatur, Tennessee, which is more than 150 km from Nashville.

A replica of the earthquake was felt about 13 minutes later, the USGS said.

The National Meteorological Service in Morristown, Tennessee, USA. reported on Twitter that the quake was the second most violent ever recorded in eastern Tennessee. The most powerful was a magnitude 4.7 earthquake that struck the region in 1973.
