Edward Brown, a 24-year-old South Side resident, faces a charge of implementing firearms and illegal use aggravated, Chicago police said in a statement. press release published Wednesday.
Brown was arrested the same day after being seen shooting with a gun in the area, Chicago police said.
The audio from the camera indicates that agents Conrad Gary and Eduardo Marmolejo were at running as a train was heading north during the hunt. According to Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson, noise from the northbound train was apparently masking the sound from the other train, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said. There is no indication that the officers saw the train heading south before it struck them, he said. He was traveling at 60 to 70 mph.
The two men died on the spot, the police said.
Gary, age 31, had been with the police for 18 years month. Marmolejo, 37, joined the department two and a half years ago, Johnson said.
Gary's wake is scheduled for Thursday and his funeral Friday, police said. Marmolejo's alarm clock is set for Friday and her funeral will be held on Saturday, police said.
Brown is scheduled to appear in court Thursday afternoon, according to the Cook County Attorney's Office.
