A Michigan restaurant owner offers free food to Coast Guard members when the government closes, saying "[lawmakers] does not even think about those people" affected by the closure.
"They now have car payments, they now have house payments, they now have to pay their kids' suspenders," said Joe Durm, owner of Java Joe's Cafe, in a statement to WPBN. "It's what irritates me the most."

Java Joe's, located at St. Ignace, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, announced the policy on Facebook on Thursday, after realizing that Coast Guard members would be affected, unlike other branches of the military.
"Good evening Saint Ignace," began the message. "Java Joe has just realized that the Coast Guard is not paid for this government shutdown, so Java Joe will give all Coast Guard members a free breakfast."
This decision was quickly hailed by Facebook's customers, as well as by some being coastguards themselves.
"Bravo to Java Joes!" Wrote a commentator. "As a US coast guard reserve, I am committed to attending your business as much as possible (as a paying customer, of course) if my transfer to St. Ignace's station was granted!"
