Earl L. Gresham , founder and longtime pastor of the Faith and Love Church in New Albany, Indiana, hit by two cars and killed on Friday

A beloved pastor and US Army veteran was killed on a road in Indiana while he was trying to help his daughter, ran out of gas while she was driving early Friday morning.
Earl L. Gresham, 73, was attempting to cross the six lanes of I-65 to join the Indiana State Police who were waiting with his daughter on the I-65. north shoulder of the road around 4 am when it was hit by two cars.
Gresham was the longtime preacher of the Faith and Love Church in New Albany, Indiana. He founded the place of worship about 35 years ago.
"My husband was really a very good man," said Cynthia Gresham, 66, at the Indy Star. "It would help anyone, no matter what time they called, he would try to help them."
Police claim that Gresham crossed the three lanes south of the road and the median to try to reach his daughter, but he was hit by a Toyota Camry as he crossed the lanes going north . He was then hit by a semitrailer semi-trailer.

The Toyota Camry was "badly damaged" in the crash, police said, but the driver was unhurt . Although they are conducting an investigation, they said at that time that there was no evidence to indict the two drivers.
Gresham served in the US Army from 1965 to 1967, during which time he was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. . Outside of those two years, he lived all his life in New Albany, Indiana. He was raised with his six brothers and four sisters, and he and his wife Cynthia had three children and seven grandchildren.
"He even took his grandchildren every Sunday to take them to church and so on," said Cynthia Gresham. "I just can not put it back."

According to Cynthia, Gresham's older brother passed away yesterday and the pastor presided over the funeral of his brother.
Tributes have already begun to spread on social media for Gresham, which was a staple of the small rural community.

"Faith and Love Church lost a saint last night, but brother Earl won his wings," wrote on Facebook Facebook, resident of New Albany. "Fly away, we'll take it from here.One of the best clergymans to have lived."
