A West Virginia school board is considering indefinitely suspending a vice principal for a bathroom incident involving a transgender student.
15-year-old Michael Critchfield, said Liberty High School vice-principal Lee Livengood on November 27, harassing him for using a boy's bathroom and telling him, "you make me fear."
Critchfield, who said he was traumatized by the incident, recalled Livengood repeatedly shouted, "Why are you here? You should not be here.
Critchfield replied that it was his legal right to use this bathroom. He added that Livengood had used incorrect pronouns when he was referring to Critchfield and had challenged him to use a urinal to prove that he was a boy.
"I felt really degraded and discriminated against," said Critchfield, adding that the school "should feel safe"
"Children like me should never have to endure anything it's kind of, "he added. In the end, all I wanted was to feel welcome. "
The Exponent Telegram reports that Livengood was suspended with pay last month, a decision that lasted four days until the holiday break.
Chairman of the County Education Council Harrison, Frank Devono, announced that the council would meet Tuesday night to review Superintendent Mark Manchin's recommendation to indefinitely suspend Livengood …
Devono says that a county-wide awareness training is also implemented.]
