A ship carrying tons of cocaine and Ukrainian sailors was arrested near Portugal

SEA SCAN 1 carries 2.5 tons of cocaine under the Panamanian flag and the crew is arrested off the coast of Portugal. On board this ship were 8 Ukrainian seamen.

The vessel was stopped in neutral waters on January 30 300 kilometers from Cape St. Victoria, in the Algarve province of Portugal, was reported to the Ukrainian Information Service by the fund Assol assistance.

During the inspection of the ship, 2.5 tons of cocaine were discovered on board, estimated at about 500 million euros.

All detainees were detained for three months. According to Portuguese law, all arrested seafarers benefit from the services of a lawyer and a translator.

When the Portuguese side authorizes it, Ukrainian seamen will be able to go to the consul of Ukraine.
