Rachel Uretsky-Pratt, a teacher in Washington State Elementary School, received a special gift from one of her students this year – and that definitely puts life in perspective.
On the last day of school before the holidays, Uretsky-Pratt explains that she received chocolate, handmade notes and jewelry from some of her students. It was, however, a plastic bag filled with marshmallows Lucky Charm that made the most impact.
"You see, 100% of my school has a free / reduced meal," she wrote on Facebook. "They also have a free breakfast at school every day of the week – this kid wanted to have my thing as bad, but had nothing to give."
Rather than give her nothing, the student sacrificed some of the cereals she offered at breakfast. received from the school. Uretsky-Pratt says that his pupil separated the marshmallows from the grains and wrapped them in the packaging of his utensils.
Uretsky-Pratt hopes that his story – which has become viral – will inspire others to be grateful for this holiday season. "Be grateful for what you have and what others give you," wrote Uretsky-Pratt. "It all comes from the very depths of their heart."
