Scientists at the Kherson Agrarian University develop a Ukrainian technology for the cultivation of precious pearls. The researchers have already built a "farm" with molluscs and are now waiting for a rich catch, reports the agro-yug portal.
Borrowed from Chinese and improved
It started with the group of teachers and scientists from the Kherson Agricultural University who worked for 1.5 years China at the Chinese Research Center Ukrainian, where they also worked on improving pearl culture technology in pearl farms, in particular, in the greatest concern for their culture.

"The technology of growing pearls is complicated by the fact that pearls are grown in China. it is very delicate, because it is necessary that the sand is placed in the right place, around which these pearls will be formed.Use in this work only women, they have very delicate hands. It is like An hour-long magician on a treadmill, especially women, and we have simplified this technology in our own way, "said Vitaliy Oliiferenko, an associate professor in the department of ecology and head of the laboratory's biological resources.
Scientists propose to cultivate pearl culture technology on local mollusc species.
"We are currently working on what is possible, what quality will be the pearl and we are developing a different technology than the one used in China," said Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology of the Agrarian University from Kherson.
Pearls in Kherson Molluscs
Kherson scientists experimentally selected about 80 pieces of molluscs of two species. The adaptation was a success.
"They showed themselves well, they work actively and grow, we do measurements, and so on, and now we started to hurt them – they put in small grains, called centers." in the turtle is deposited, which begins to form a layer of mother-of-pearl in the mollusks. It is to say that a pearl is formed.Well, wait until it ends.Although everything is good, "said the expert.
He pointed out that until now, no turtle has died. And in two months, the first batch will be revealed to measure the result.
Olifirenko added that to launch this technology, they wanted to work on local types of shellfish. And if all goes well, they will try Chinese, because the hybrid of shells made in China produces very high quality pearls that are not distinguishable from the sea.
