CHARLOTTE, N. C. (AP) – Police say that a woman from North Carolina foiled a man who was trying to kidnap her by bumping into a karate studio. Jonathan Thomas of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said that a woman was heading to a store Thursday night when a man approached her. He says that when the man grabbed her, she managed to get away and get into the studio.
Thomas says that the man followed him into the studio, where people protected him and called 911. They then looked at where the man had gone able to show him the police when they arrived.
The man, August Williams, age 46, is held on bail on a number of counts, including an attempted abduction. His first hearing is scheduled for Monday. We do not know if he has a lawyer.
