Eve R. Irvine, Police Chief of Torrance, identified the man arrested as 47 year old Reginald Wallace of Los Angeles. Irvine said he was identified in the 30 hours following the shooting and was arrested in Los Angeles, where he is held without bail. Three men were killed and four injured Friday night at the Gable House Bowl in Torrance, about 20 km south of Los Angeles.
Wallace, said Irvine, is on parole after serving a 17-year sentence of imprisonment for assault with a weapon. . He was released in 2017, she said.
According to affiliates of CNN, KTLA, and KABC, three people who died on the spot were Michael Radford, 20, and Robert Meekins and Astin Edwards, both 28, were identified by the family.
Police said two wounded men were taken to a hospital and two other men were examined by a doctor.
The gunshots went out just before midnight after a fight between women and then men. Irvine said it was unclear whether Wallace knew anyone in bowling, but he was part of the larger group that was already in bowling, she said. He fired into the crowd with a handgun and would be the only gunman in the incident, Irvine said.
"We have never had such an incident in the city of Torrance," said Irvine.
Detectives were required to examine a surveillance video recorded inside the building, said Torrance Police spokesman Sgt. Ronald Harris.
"We also ask anyone in the public who has seen something, or (recorded) a video from a cell phone or other video, to come forward and contribute to this investigation," Harris said. .
Upon arrival, Torrance police officers saw several people shot and began taking life-saving measures, including CPR and the use of a defibrillator, police said.
