In the United States, astronomers have discovered an unusual asteroid 2019 AQ3, it turns near the sun and covers it in just 165 days. Its orbit forces scientists to search for other similar objects.
165 days is the shortest year ever seen on the asteroid of the solar system.
"We have discovered an unusual object whose orbit slightly spreads from the orbit of Venus is a great discovery," said astronomer Kwangji Ye of the California IPAC Center Institute of Technology.
From archival data and new observations, the researchers were able to accurately calculate the 2019 AQ3 orbit this year. It moves in a loop that passes above and below the orbital plane of the solar system. Its diameter is almost a kilometer and a half.
The new asteroid is inscribed in the family of Atira. This includes asteroids, in which the orbits are within the Earth's orbit. Only 20 asteroids of this type have been found (about 800,000 are known). The group is named after its first representative, the Asteroid Atira, discovered in 2003 and named after the Indian goddess of the Paun tribe.
- In its latest update, the ESA Coordination Center moved the asteroid 2018XB4, also called Apophis. , the TOP-10 potentially dangerous objects near the Earth
- Astronomers have discovered a small object above the Earth that looked like an "empty trash bag". Its diameter is only a few meters and it is very light.
