An East Point man arrested for shooting a businessman outside CVS

Gainesville police arrested a man from East Point in connection with Thursday's deadly assassination of an influential businessman in front of a CVS, officials said. Parrish announced at a press conference.

73-year-old businessman and philanthropist Jack Hough was sitting in his parked car while his wife was entering the Park Hill Drive CVS, said Parrish.

As the window of the car was lowered, Bennett approached and attempted to steal Hough at approximately 7:45 pm

"He resisted the suspect's attempt and a fight ensued," said Parrish. "At that time, Mr. Hough was shot in the chest while he was sitting inside his vehicle."

He was taken to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center, where he died later, has already reported AJC.com.

Investigators found forensic evidence at the scene that led to Bennett, Parrish said. After being arrested without incident in East Point, he was brought back to Hall County and incarcerated for murder.

The police also discovered what she thought was the weapon used to kill Hough.

Bennett was arrested before, says Parrish, but he had no details about his criminal background. He was in Gainesville with his girlfriend looking for work and housing opportunities, the police said.

Hough was a well known businessman in North Georgia. A veteran of the Air Force, his successful business has developed and operated food courts in the country's shopping centers and airports, reported Friday Channel 2 Action News.

"In the early 1990s, he developed the concept of Consolidated Food Tribunal and successfully expanded into brand centers," said his family in an obituary.

He was also known for his philanthropic work. Her family has asked that, instead of flowers, donations be made to two of Hough's favorite charities in Gainesville: We Care and the first United Methodist Church in Gainesville.

"This community lost a wonderful man," Parrish said, adding that he had spoken to Hough's family after the arrest. "It removes that cloud from them as they start their own healing process."

Hough's death was one of four "unrelated acts of gunshot violence" committed over the past five weeks, Parrish said in a video message Friday. 19659002] "We understand your concern and concern for your safety in the city," said Parrish. "We know that random acts of violence are not the norm in Gainesville, Georgia."

One of the four shootings still has not been resolved, police said.
