Police on Sunday arrested a man from Indiana for raping and murdering an 8-year-old girl found dead in a ditch 30 years ago.
John Miller, 59, was arrested on Sunday morning after DNA evidence linked him to the rape and murder of April Tinsley, whose body was found three days after his family looted him. Reported missing in 1988.
Investigators from the Fort Wayne Police Department and Indiana Police said that they had arrived at Miller's home Sunday morning and asked him if he had an idea why the police wanted to talk to him. "
Miller replied "April Tinsley" and told the police that he had abducted the girl on April 1, 1988 and took her away in his caravan where he had sexually assaulted the girl and strangled her, according to court documents.
He told the police that it took him 10 minutes for the girl to die and said that he kept his body for a day before throwing it away.
Police said they received their first case in 2004 – 16 years after the April murder – when the self-appointed killer left notes, pictures and used condoms at three different locations, threatening the police and threatening to kill again, police said.
Some of the notes, which were handwritten on lined yellow paper, were inside handbags with Polaroid photos of the alleged killer's body, according to the FBI, which also investigated the # 39; s case.
"Hi darling, I've looked at you," reads in an FBI note. "I am the same person who kidnapped, raped and killed April Tinsely, you are my next victim."
