Astronomers have discovered the celestial body furthest from the solar system. The VG18 2018 is located at a distance 120 times larger than the Earth of the Sun.
Astronomers from the Carnegie Institution, the University of Hawaii and the University of Arizona made this discovery. They have been looking for distant objects in the solar system for several years.
A celestial body was classified as a dwarf planet and given it the name of "Farout". It is located at a distance of 120 astronomical units from the Sun (about 18 billion kilometers). From this distance, it will take more than a thousand years for this planet to turn completely around the Sun.
By way of comparison, Pluto is 34 astronomical units of the Sun.
For the first time, astronomers managed to fix this distant celestial body with a telescope in Hawaii, and repeated observations of the Magellan telescope in Chile confirmed the discovery.
According to scientists' calculations, the diameter of the open planet is 500 km and its pink hue may indicate that the surface is ice, said the N + 1 resource.
The previous farthest object of the solar system considered was the planet Eris (96 astronomical). Units of the Sun
