In the face of heavy rains, gusty winds, and poor visibility, rescuers and law enforcement officers swept through the rough terrain of Craven County, North Carolina, and focused on the area. 1,000 acres of heavily wooded areas.

Search and rescue teams from across North Carolina immediately gathered to face the dangerous terrain and cold temperatures hoping to find Casey. The search lasted three days.
The FBI, the NCIS, dozens of volunteers, and the US Marine Corps also joined efforts to find the boy, Hughes said.
Authorities used helicopters, drones and K-9 units, said Stanley Kite, director of emergency management for Craven County. Divers also assessed nearby ponds, reported WTVD.
The boy's authorities, described as weighing 25 pounds and measuring 2 feet 4 inches, were stuck in such bad conditions that the volunteers were sent back to search.
Hughes said his team was worried. about the "extreme cold" when the temperatures were falling to the point of freezing, but against all odds, they found it.
"These are people who give us tips and tracks," Hughes said. "We hit them all immediately and it paid off."

Casey receives medical treatment for cuts and scrapes at the East Carolina Medical Center, said Shelley Lynch, spokeswoman for the FBI office in Charlotte.
