PORTLAND – An official from Oregon says that a mountaineer who was rescued from Mount Hood had gone to the summit because he wanted to stop it .

Six Portland Mountain Rescue volunteers are with a man who, according to Lucas, is also diabetic.

The National Guard of the Army of Oregon sent helicopters to Mount Hood to help rescue an injured climber.

Guard spokesman Christopher Ingersoll told The Oregonian / OregonLive that the helicopters were heading to the highest peak in Oregon since Salem and Pendleton.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office learned Thursday that a bailout was necessary. Steve Rollins of Portland Mountain Rescue says the rescuers reached the injured climber Friday morning on the summit plateau.

The video of the scene shows a group of people around the injured climber. The climber seems to be wrapped in a sleeping bag. The extent of the climber's injury has not been published.
