But that is not quite what happens in a video published by the New York Police Department. Just after the unidentified man proposed in Times Square, the NYPD said, he dropped his fiancée's ring in a sidewalk grid.

This proposal was more modest. According to New York Daily News the man, who is now engaged, dropped the ring just before midnight on Friday. He asked a police officer to help open the gate, but they were not able to open it. The Daily News reported that the NYPD was finally able to recover the ring on Saturday morning.
The NYPD Twitter account retrieved the ring from the Ministry's Special Operations Office, which also includes and mounted units on horses. A tweet about the brilliant and ring appears in a Twitter feed that also contains close-up images of the firearms seized.
But a happy ending announces what the ministry calls its "almost engaged" couple. Even before the ring came home, the woman said yes.
