Windi Thomas pleaded guilty to third degree murder and faces a recommended sentence of 18 to 36 years.

A woman in Erie accused of assaulting and crushing her boyfriend with her body at the couple's residence in Erie in March pleaded guilty. 3rd degree murder Monday.

Windi C. Thomas, 44, approved a sentence of 18 to 36 years of imprisonment recommended as part of his plea agreement with prosecutors. His sentence is scheduled for December 21.

Judge William R. Cunningham of Erie County accepted the plea shortly before 9 o'clock. Jeremy Lightner, Erie County Attorney, has dropped the charges of aggravated assault, endangerment and possession of the crime-exchanging tool against Thomas's argument over the death of his boyfriend, Keeno Butler, 44 years old.

The recommended sentence of 18 to 36 years would be reduced from two to four years compared to the maximum sentence of 20 to 40 years for third-degree murder, a premeditated murder with malice. Thomas was to be tried in the case starting on December 10th.

"This is a good result based on the facts of the case," said court-appointed Thomas' lawyer in Pittsburgh. "I think it's just for both sides."

Sandra Butler, the victim's sister, said that she wanted Thomas to serve more time than the agreed sentence.

"I think she should have 40 or more," Butler said. "She deserved life."

Erie police investigators accused Thomas of killing Butler during an attack on March 18 against the couple's apartment located at 1019 East Ave. Thomas told the investigators that she had cut the knife in her hand with a bent knife and hit her head with a table foot during a confrontation.

Thomas also stated that she had placed her head on the couch so that part of her body was on Butler. chief, said the police. The investigators wrote in the affidavit of the probable cause that Thomas weighed about 300 pounds and Butler about 120 pounds.

According to the affidavit, Forcer stated that Butler's body was found on the living room floor of the residence after Thomas called 911 and announced that he had killed a person.

Sandra Butler said her family was still struggling to cope with her brother's death.

"My mother, she calls him every night," Butler said.
