A request for comment from the governor's office was not immediately returned.

Northam was scheduled to hold a press conference Saturday afternoon to respond to calls for his resignation from Democrats, both in Virginia and in the country. President Nancy Pelosi called on Northam to "do the right thing" and called the photo "racist and contrary to fundamental American values".
"The situation in which he put himself and the Commonwealth of Virginia is untenable.It is time Ralph resigns and the Commonwealth progresses," said former Virginia governor, Terry McAuliffe, calling the photo "racist, unacceptable and inexcusable at any age and any time".

But Virginia State Senator Louise Lucas's office told Fox News that Northam had contacted her to tell her he was not in the photo and he will not resign. This was done after the Democratic Party of Virginia tweeted that he had learned that Northam would not resign as he believed.
"We stand with the Democrats of Virginia and the country that calls for him to resign immediately," the party said. said in a statement.
