MUSCOY, Calif. – A 4-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his 2-year-old cousin in Muscoy, California on Friday, officials said. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department reported that MPs and first responders arrived at 9:00 am local time on a street in Duffy Street.
They said they were shot and wounded where she was pronounced dead nearly an hour later.
The victim's grandfather, Cesar Lopez, 53, was arrested and charged with endangering a child. The investigators interviewed several people who were inside the house and said that they determined that Lopez left the gun "in an area that was accessible to children."
Columbus McBath, a neighbor, told CBS Los Angeles that he saw the little girl playing in the front yard of his home. He said he saw first aid putting a child in an ambulance on Friday, and that it looked like he was shot in the chest.
"The kid was in the wrong place at the wrong time – and they did not know what to do. they had, "said McBath.
The sheriff's department said that the investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available at the moment.
