Nathan Sutherland, Licensed Practical Nurse who took care of the woman of Hacienda HealthCare Institution, was arrested and is facing preliminary charges of sexual assault and assault. abuse of vulnerable adults, Williams said.
L & # 39; Sutherland's DNA "corresponded well to the baby" when the law enforcement laboratory technicians tested it on Tuesday, Sgt. Tommy Thompson said.
The guardians of the woman were surprised by the birth of December 29, one of them having told a dispatcher of 911: "We did not know that she was pregnant." The woman belongs to the Apache tribe of San Carlos and has been living in a vegetative state for a long time, said the president of the tribe.
"I'm told that the baby is doing very well," Thompson said Wednesday.
Phoenix police recently reported that they were conducting an investigation into sexual assault and collecting DNA from men working on the site. The woman, aged 29, has been there since 1992.
This birth prompted Hacienda to hire a former attorney to review what happened. The company provided all records of the woman's treatment and was ordered to hire a third-party administrator to oversee several of its facilities.
Developing story; more soon.
