Houston: 4 officers shot while he was under warrant, another wounded

A dozen drug officers, accompanied by several patrol officers, responded to a residence where police suspected the sale of drugs, Acevedo told reporters late Monday night. The narcotics agents announced themselves as they broke through the door just before 5pm. Then the shooting started, said Acevedo.

"Immediately after breaking down the door, one or two suspects inside the house shot at the police," Acevedo said.

One of the suspects has withdrawn to the back of the room, said the chief of police, before reappearing. and again brought fire.

Four officers were shot, Acevedo said. A fifth officer was injured in the knee, according to Acevedo.

Police fired back, killing two suspects on the scene, police chief said. He did not disclose the names of the suspects.

Acevedo stated that the authorities initially believed that five officers had been shot dead. Joe Gamaldi, president of the Houston Police Officers' Union, also announced that five officers had been shot dead.

Two of the bullet-wounded agents were operated on Monday night and were in critical but stable condition. The other two are expected to recover, said Acevedo.

"It has been a difficult day for our city," said Mayor Sylvestre Turner, encouraging locals to pray for officers.

"Pray for their families, pray for their spouses, their children, their parents, all their loved ones," said the mayor.

"The horrible attack perpetrated against police officers tonight is a solemn reminder of the service rendered and the sacrifice of our brave police and law enforcement officers, every day to protect us," said the president. Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
