A remarkable twist in the story of the murder of Molly Tibbetts, a 20-year-old Iowa student, delivered by Terrence McCoy of the Washington Post . Tibbetts was reportedly murdered by Cristhian Bahena Rivera, an undocumented immigrant, aged 24, who worked as a farm laborer in the rural community of Brooklyn, Iowa. Today, Tibbetts' mother, Laura Calderwood, has collected the son of 17-year-old Mexican immigrants, whose family is closely linked to the alleged murderer. The teenager calls Felix Ulises. Her parents had worked alongside Bahena Rivera, who was a regular in the Brooklyn family caravan and had a child with Felix's cousin. Felix's parents decided to leave town amid a wave of anti-immigrant sentiments that arose after the massacre, but Felix wanted to stay and finish high school.
It was at that time that Calderwood, 55, welcomed Felix into a spare room of his house. Not only did his teenage son, Scott, ask for his friend's new home, but Calderwood said that was what his daughter would have liked. (Molly's father, separated from Calderwood, wrote that his daughter would have found anti-immigration "racist" ideas.)
