John Kasich signs with CNN as a senior political commentator

Tuesday morning, CNN announced that Kasich was the latest addition to the team's commentators network.

He will be the guest of many CNN programs. The first appearance of Kasich will be on "Cuomo Prime Time" Tuesday night. Axios announced its hiring Tuesday morning for the first time.

Kasich's move to CNN is remarkable because he is one of President Trump's most prominent critics in the Republican Party. He declined to exclude a primary offer against Trump in 2020.

Kasich attacked Trump for the first time in July 2015 when the governor of Ohio announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination to the presidency. He abandoned the race in May of the following year after Trump became the presumed candidate for the GOP.

In the past, CNN and other cable television channels have broken their ties with commentators after they have been put in place to run for office. 19659002] After leaving the governor's office, Kasich signed a contract with an art agency, UTA, to explore television opportunities and other offers. When the agency contract was announced Monday, UTA said it would "help him navigate the next phase of his public and private life."

That same day, CNBC announced that Kasich "was trying to sign with CNN or MSNBC."

The two chains sometimes jostle to sign the same votes in exclusive contracts.

Last week, CNN signed two former lawmakers, Republican Mia Love and Democrat Luis Gutierrez, as commentators.

On Tuesday, MSNBC announced the hiring of former Senator Claire McCaskill, the Missouri Democrat, who was beaten midway through. She will be a policy analyst for MSNBC and NBC News.

CNN's agreement with Kasich may reflect changes in the political media landscape. Until 2007, he hosted a weekend show called "Heartland" on Fox News.

But Fox has changed and he has changed too. Kasich had "ruled out Fox News Channel," CNBC reported on Monday.
