After meeting with the president since Saturday, the North Carolina Republican described the Democrats as "misinterpreted" by Trump as they thought it would jeopardize the funding of the wall.
"I can tell you they believe that the President is going away on this particular issue, they read it badly, the American people," Meadows told Manu Raju, of CNN , in "Inside Politics".
Trump, addressing the press a few hours later during a trip to Iraq, said his stance had not changed.
Asked about the duration of the closure, the President responded that he would continue to ask "anything that would be needed" to obtain funding from the wall.
"We need a wall," Trump said. "So when you say how long will it take, when will they say we need security at the border?"
Up to now, negotiations between congressional Democrats and the Trump administration on the president's demands for a border wall have not resulted in an agreement and the Closing will continue until at least Thursday when the Senate will return to Washington.
