Tuesday, the lawyer of former Trump's campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, is expected to go to the US District Court in Washington, where a federal judge should hear defense counsel respond to Mueller's accusation that Manafort violated the terms of his plea agreement.
Manafort, 69, signed the agreement in September, recognizing his guilt for conspiracy arising from the work he had done for a pro-Russian political party in Ukraine a few years earlier. The agreement was reached less than a month after Manafort was convicted of eight counts brought by Mueller in a separate lawsuit in Virginia federal court.
As part of this agreement, Manafort promised to cooperate fully and honestly with the investigators. On November 26, Mueller rescinded the deal, saying the former Trump campaign director had committed "crimes and lies" after signing a plea. Manafort, however, said he had "provided truthful information," according to the record.
In a heavily redacted submission to the role on Friday, Mueller exposed five different lies allegedly narrated by Manafort. The alleged lies are related to: contacts with people in the Trump administration at the time they were working there; a meeting with the alleged Russian spy Konstantin Kilimnik; a bank transfer to a company working for Manafort; and contradictory information, he told investigators from the Ministry of Justice in another district.
Manafort's lawyers will have the opportunity to revisit the allegations of the special attorney in court Tuesday at 3 pm AND in front of Judge Amy Berman Jackson. But Mueller had already warned in the filing Friday that "if the defendant argues that the government has not acted in good faith, the government is available to prove these false statements at a hearing."
The date of conviction of Manafort is scheduled for March 5 of next year. .
Meanwhile, Trump recently stated in an interview with the New York Post that he "would not withdraw" a possible forgiveness for Manafort "from the table".
In this interview, Trump stated that Manafort and two other people in Mueller's field of vision were "very brave" and claimed that Mueller had forced them to lie.
