The National Weather Service issued an advisory regarding winter conditions in certain areas of three counties of New Jersey, due to a Wednesday storm likely to project 1 to 3 inches of snow into areas along the New Jersey coast, which would make the southern route difficult half of the state.
The winter weather advisory includes the Ocean County and parts of the Atlantic and Burlington counties, where snow is expected to begin around 10 am, although some areas are already experiencing snow storm. The notice runs until 18 hours. A winter weather advisory is issued when it is expected that the roads will be snow-covered and visibility may be limited.
"Dangerous conditions could affect evening travel," said the National Meteorological Service during its Wednesday morning briefing. "The affected area should be a narrow band, so the impacts and amount of snow could vary considerably over short distances."
Much of the southern half of the state, including the area around Philadelphia and along the I-95 corridor, could see at least one layer of snow and the moment could lead to conditions of difficult driving, says the National Weather Service.
A special weather report has been published for these areas. According to forecasters, localized snowfall could vary considerably in the expected areas, the forecaster said.
The Department of Transport announced Tuesday night that crews plan to treat pavement with brine before snowfall. The administration of Governor Phil Murphy has been widely criticized for managing a snowstorm last month during the evening shuttle that left part of the state paralyzed, drivers stranded on highways and forced students to spend the night at school. Many sources told NJ Advance Media that the state had been waiting for the situation to deteriorate so that subcontractors would be deployed to clean the roads.
