According to Nature Astronomy, in a protoplanetary disc of a young star pointed in the direction of the Orion constellation, astronomers were able to see some of the complex organic molecules.


The newly discovered star, located just 1,300 light-years away from us, called V883 Ori. Its size gradually increases and melts the "snow line" – the region around the light, made up of cosmic ice. Usually the snow line is very close to the star, and its glow prevents in detail from considering such formations. The unique feature of the V883 Ori's ice belt is that it is 10 times farther from the star than it should be – terrestrial telescopes can explore Ice without complications.

Thanks to this, scientists were able to detect five complex organic molecules in the cosmos. : methanol, acetaldehyde, methyl formate, acetonitrile and acetone. Acetone was listed for the first time on this list – before astronomers could find it in cosmic ice sediments.
