"Unless extended by new legislation, the wage freeze will end on the last day of the last pay period beginning in 2018", wrote Margaret Weichert, acting director of the agency, in a memo last week.
The note notes that the wage freeze would end on Saturday if no legislative action was taken.

The salary ceiling of some senior political officials was extended in March 2018 and a memo issued the following month by the US government. Office of Personnel Management indicated that Congress should take action before January 5, 2019 to keep the freeze in place. This means that the administration and the legislators knew for months that this deadline was approaching.
