There was a shooting Sunday afternoon at Fashion Place Mall, 6191 S. State St., Murray. The shooter is still on the run, but the shooting is no longer active, confirmed the police. According to the police, two people were injured and their status is unknown. People are asked to avoid the area.
Ermiya Fanaeian is a student activist from March for our Lives, Utah, created after the mass shooting in Parkland, Florida. She is currently hiding in the mall with about 30 other people. She did not hear the shots, but saw the police as she crouched.
"I feel absolutely terrified," Fanaeian told The Salt Lake Tribune newspaper. "It Should Never Happen."
State Representative Carol Spackman Moss went to the mall to do some shopping and exercise after the fire alarm. Nobody seemed to respond, and then employees suddenly started closing the security doors in each store and urging people to leave quickly. Rumor has it that at least two people were shot dead.
"This is the real problem," said Moss, a Holladay Democrat, while sitting in a long haul of mall clients. "It can happen anywhere, but it's really surprising when that's the case."
