The remains found last month in Apple Valley, California, were identified as belonging to Krystie Stuart, a missing woman since March 2015, according to a press release issued Saturday by the Sheriff-Coroner's Department of San Bernardino County.
"On January 24, 2019, human remains were found by two hunters in Apple Valley County," the statement said. Detectives from the Victor Valley Sheriff's Station and investigators from the San Bernardino County Coroner's Division responded to the scene to recover the remains.
On Wednesday, January 30, the San Bernardino County Coroner's Office confirmed that the remains were from Krystie. Two days later, the authorities took steps in an area north-east of the site where the human remains were located. Additional remains, also belonging to Krystie, have also been located. The press release indicates that these remains are now in the possession of the San Bernardino County Coroner's Division.
In a message posted on Help Find Krystie Stuart's Facebook page, Krystie's family expressed its devastation.
"It is with great sadness that we have learned that the partial remains of Krystia have been found," reads the article. "[Krystie’s parents] received a call from the detective asking him to get off at the station. Once there, they were told that a jawbone had been found, which had been positively identified through dental records. It was Krystie. "
The press release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner's Department states that the cause of death has not yet been determined.
As Dateline has already pointed out, 29-year-old Krystie Stuart was last seen leaving a dentist appointment at Apple Valley, where she lived. She was supposed to go to a friend's house right after the appointment, but she never arrived.
Having had no news of their daughter later in the night or the next day, Krystie's parents, Don and Ginger, called her church friends to find out if anyone was there. one knew where Krystie was. Nobody had heard of her. The next morning, Don and Ginger called the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office to report the disappearance of their daughter.
A few days later, on March 8, 2015, "Krystie's pickup truck was located, unoccupied, in the desert area of North Apple Valley," said a statement from the Victor Valley Sheriff's Department. According to the statement, the investigators were processing the vehicle but did not believe in a criminal act.
Saturday's press release indicates that Krystie's remains were found about 2.5 miles from where his truck was.
