Naval aviation pioneer Rosemary Mariner, the first woman to fly a fighter, died last week after a long battle with ovarian cancer. She was 65 years old.
Mariner served in the US Navy from 1973 to 1997. Daughter of an Air Force pilot and a Navy nurse, she graduated in aeronautics from Purdue University. She entered the Navy and completed her flying training in 1974. After that, she entered history by becoming the first woman to fly a tactical plane. DIT
