S Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a Supreme Court justice, missed Tuesday a second day of pleadings as she continued to recover from surgery after cancer, said Tuesday Chief Justice John Roberts.

Roberts marks the absence of Ginsburg – for the second day in a row – before the court heard the arguments of two cases on Tuesday. Roberts said she would participate in the examination of cases on the basis of briefs filed and transcripts of arguments.

The remaining eight judges met to give opinions in two cases and to hear arguments in two other cases.

Ginsburg, 85, was also absent on Monday, marking the first time that she was missing an oral argument during her 25 years at the Supreme Court.

Justice was operated on December 21 to remove two malignant nodules from his left lung. She was released from the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center on Christmas Day.

She is recovering from her home.

The cancerous growths of Ginsburg's left lung were discovered when she underwent tests after fracturing three ribs in the fall of October 7.

Ginsburg is the oldest member of the court and the leader of his liberal bloc.
