A group of astronomers fixed for the first time the moment to turn a star into a black hole. The results of the observation were presented at the 233rd meeting of the American Astronomical Community, written on the NASA website.
According to calculations, the process took place 200 million years ago, but the light signal has reached our planet only now. The phenomenon resembles the explosion of the supernova – the brightness of the star increases and releases a large amount of energy.
In the scientific community, this phenomenon was called "cow", officially – AT2018cow. It is unusual in this process that, despite the high brightness of the explosion, the release of energy is minimal. The process was observed simultaneously across 18 telescopes – it became a record. Several teams of astrophysicists performed simulations based on observations and suggested that the process was the birth of a black hole
- A group of astronomers found a source of high energy gamma rays next to supernova remnants G24.7 + 0.6. It is still unknown what creates radiation that propagates in space for about a hundred light-years
- . Astronomers have discovered a new class of planets containing many elements, such as sapphires and rubies. It is possible that they can shine.
