Seattle has almost reached its annual amount of snow in a day

Another wave of snow hit the state of Washington this week, leaving officials scrambling to get people out of the street and the governor to declare the state of emergency.

Nearly 20 million people in the northwest are on storm alert Saturday morning while an extra two to one inches of snow will fall in Seattle, according to CNN weather forecaster Haley Brink.

The Seattle-Tacoma International Airport posted 6.4 inches of snow on Friday, according to the National Weather Service. This is the second largest amount of snow recorded in the region in one day in 20 years – and there is still more to come.

This is only the fourth time the region has recorded six inches of snow since 1991. Seattle displays an average 6.8 inches of snow over a full year.

Washington takes precautions

More snowfall is expected Saturday and officials are ready. Washington Governor Jay Inslee said the state of emergency Friday as the region prepares for whitewash, high winds and freezing air.

"Everyone in our state needs to focus on snow preparation and safety," Inslee said in a statement. "Meteorologists predict that it will be a storm, unlike the one we have seen for many years, I encourage everyone to stay off the road if possible and plan ahead if you have to travel."

The Seattle Police Service tweeted that additional resources were being allocated to heat shelters for the homeless.

With the proclamation of the state of emergency, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) limits the number of hours commercial vehicle drivers may be on the road. Governors collecting or delivering bulk milk products or road salt from the FMCSA are exempt, said the governor.

Blocked people at home take a more moderate tone about the city's reaction and residents' readiness. Jacobs tweeted that, as supermarkets had no more kale due to "tiny icy death balls", he was going to stay at home and keep his supplies.

Frosty temperatures and strong winds

should accompany the storm could cause problems with blowing snow, as well as power lines and trees fallen to the ground. Gusts of wind could reach 20 to 30 mph in the Seattle area, while the northern areas of Puget Sound and the Olympics could record gusts of 60 mph.

Seattle slips and skids under unusually heavy snowfall

Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing point to Monday afternoon, said Brink, before the temperature exceeds 35 degrees.

The average Seattle maximum at that time is 49 degrees, said Brink.

These temperatures, combined with the wind, give the impression that one is in adolescence Saturday in the region of Seattle.

If that were not enough, there could still be more snow in Seattle on Sunday. Earlier this week, another storm closed Seattle and left some neighborhoods at approximately one half foot of snow.
