Chico's neighbors watch the police search the house where the overdoses took place on Saturday.
KRCR News Channel 7 contacted the Enloe Medical Center in Chico for an account of the mass overdose incident that occurred on Saturday.
Initially, 11 people were brought to Enloe. Two were allowed to return home before being admitted, two were released Sunday after their convalescence. Sunday afternoon, there were seven people in the hospital, all in good condition.
Three others were also taken to the Oroville hospital, but only one of them was admitted. This person has since been released.
The victims were between 19 and 30 years old.
The Chico Police Department suspects that fentanyl was caused by an overdose, combined with something else. There is still no official word on the nature of the drug that caused the overdose en masse. Two officers felt the effects of the drug at home. They were hospitalized and released.
According to Chico Fire, an incident involving a large number of casualties would have been to prepare Enloe Hospital to accommodate a large number of patients and each Chico ambulance would have reacted in front of the house. Six doses of naloxone, a drug capable of suppressing the symptoms of an opioid overdose, have been administered at home.
The Chico Police Department stated that the police had not started wearing naloxone until 2018.
