Sheldon Silver, the disgraced former president of the New York State Assembly, was sentenced to seven years in prison – under 12 years of age that he was sentenced to previously.
The judge cited Ms. Silver's advanced age of 74 and the substantial monetary penalties she expects to impose, including a fine of $ 1.75 million, for the lower sentence.
Silver was convicted in May – for the second time – for selling his office for $ 4 million in bribes plus $ 1 million in profits for two projects.
Prior to his arrest in 2015, Silver was one of Albany's most powerful men – with Governor Andrew Cuomo and Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos.

The Lower East Side Democrat is the fourth public official with ties to Albany to be found guilty in the Manhattan federal courthouse since March.
