Severe storms flooded the east and west coasts over the weekend, destroying precipitation records in the Washington, DC, area, and creating waves the size of a tower.

The surf was so dangerous that the World Surf League was canceling events during its "big wave tour" on the legendary Mavericks surf spot south of San Francisco, reported the NBC Bay Area.
"I think they were more worried about wind and height," said Frank Quirarte, who heads the Mavericks rescue team, at the station on Sunday. "Even the most experienced guys will tell you that it's something they do not want to do."
Surf was the biggest Quirarte had seen in Mavericks in a decade, reported NBC Bay Area.

Outside of Washington, Fairfax and Montgomery County crews saved many passengers from broken down vehicles, officials said. In Howard County they saved a lama from a flooded pasture near the inflated Patuxent River.
The rescues took place amid record rains recorded in Baltimore (Washington) and at Dulles Airport, the National Weather Service announced.
Daily total precipitation has more than doubled at Dulles, from a record high in 2005 to nearly 2.5 inches on Saturday, the meteorological service said.
Rainfall records in the region were only beaten one day. previously, when the weather service had announced that 2018 was the wettest calendar year ever recorded at Washington National Airport. The old record of 61.33 inches had been documented more than a century ago, the agency said in 1889.
