On December 28, the Council of the European Union decided to extend the economic sanctions against Russia by six months.
An affidavit has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
"This decision is valid until 31 July 2019 … Entry into force the day after its adoption, published in the Official Journal of the European Union," reads the statement.
The EU Council decision on sanctions against the Russian Federation will enter into force on 29 December.
On the eve of 12 December, the European Parliament called for stronger sanctions if Russia does not release captured Ukrainian seamen.
