Astronomers have confirmed this theory after a recent study
Scientists have called the galaxy distinct from the Milky Way for its characteristic form. It turned out that in the interval between 8 and 11 billion years ago, our star system went with the mentioned galaxy some unification process. It radically changed the way the outer and inner regions of the Milky Way were built.
Looking at distant objects with the help of the most powerful telescopes, the scientists said that they could observe that processes in the universe often resembled the fusion of galaxies. However, as far as the Milky Way is concerned, there is no clarity here, because even the number of spiral sleeves is still unknown. The history of the origin of our star system is not yet fully understood.
In the new work, astronomers used data from the Gaia Space Telescope to study as close as possible stars near the Sun at distances up to 10 kiloparisecs. It has turned out that the speed of the stars should be more closely related to the extent of their helium elements.
In addition, the distribution of stars was distributed between two regions: the round corresponding to the galactic disk and the elongated shape that astronomers called Gaia Sausage. The radial velocities of the stars in the second region are distributed in a fairly broad range, that is to say that these stars move towards the center of the galaxy, while most of the stars are at a distance. center constant.
