In Latvia, started to open lists of names of people who can cooperate with the KGB. Among them was the name of the captain of the USSR National Basketball Team, Valdis Valters.
The file contains the name of the secret officer, the trustee who recruited him, the date of recruitment, the criminal pseudonym. Walter appeared under the pseudonym Steve. He was recruited in September 1985, according to the publication delfi.lv.

However, it is impossible to confirm that the basketball player was recruited. The reason is that the documents coincide with the name and year of birth, but do not match the date. The map index shows the date of birth on May 17, although Valdis Walters himself was born on August 4. The former basketball player also denies any cooperation with the KGB. He insists that the map index refers to his name and not to his name.
It should be noted that Valdis Walters is world champion in 1982 and twice European champion of basketball in 1981 and 1985 in the USSR national team. He was the captain of the team.
