In announcing the new MacBook Pro this week, Apple has mentioned on occasion that the keyboard of its more expensive laptops is getting quieter. The experts of the site iFixit changed their minds and found that the noise level was reduced and what else.
The keyboards with butterfly mechanism, introduced by Apple a few years ago, were quite powerful it did not particularly complain about. Laptop owners were more outraged by frequent visits to repair services. Inside the keyboard, microscopic dust particles came into contact with the keystrokes or caused them to "stick".
As it was discovered in iFixit, quieter keys began to be added by a new element: a silicone "membrane". It also acts as a protective barrier, preventing dust from getting into the mechanism. This membrane is not waterproof, so it is not water protection, but it is likely to be effective from fine dust particles.
This particular version of the refinement of the type "butterfly" described in Apple patent application filed in March this year. It is signed as "Preventing penetration under the keyboard". According to the description, the protection element diverts the small elements of the moving parts of the mechanism. It seems that the company has decided to seriously handle the complaints of the users and to complete its product.
