NASA InSight, now on Mars as part of the mission of the same name, performed the first "sephi". Yes, the picture was taken at the beginning of the week. It consists of 11 images that are connected together. The photo shows InSight solar panels, scientific instruments and weather sensors.
As we know, InSight arrived on the red planet on November 26th. The trip lasted 7 months. So, scientists are currently checking the capabilities of the device.
By the way, InSight's mission is to study the internal structure and composition of Mars. US $ 830 million has been invested in its implementation. This is the first mission to Mars in the last six years.
NASA decided to land in the Mars area, called Elysium Planitia. Here, there are no rocks or craters.
"We chose the region because our tools and devices must be safe, and in the picture we received, at first sight, nothing interesting, but we are happy to see Mars so close", commented Bruce Banerdt, chief investigator of InSight.
