Westinghouse Electric Company is an American electrotechnical and nuclear company in the United States. As it was reported, in order to diversify the sources of nuclear fuel supply for Ukrainian nuclear power plants, Energoatom jointly launched in 2000 Westinghouse to implement the project of nuclear fuel qualification of the company.
In March 2008, Energoatom entered into a commercial contract with Westinghouse Electric Sweden (Sweden) for the supply of fresh nuclear fuel for three to six Ukrainian NPP units equipped with WWER-1000 reactors in 2011-2015. In 2014, the parties agreed to extend and extend it by 2020. In January 2018, the contract was extended until 2025. The agreement provides for the supply of nuclear fuel for the supply of seven of the 15 Ukrainian nuclear power plants
Energoatom plans to fully charge four units of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant with Westinghouse fuels in 2019-2021. It is expected that the second and sixth installments of the ZNPP will continue to be operated solely with Russian nuclear fuel
