The resolution against the lifting of the sanctions of the companies of Deripaska was not adopted by the American Senate

The resolution against the abolition of sanctions imposed by the companies of Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska was not approved by a procedural vote in the US Senate on January 16th.

For further consideration of the document, 57 senators voted against. The leader of the Democratic minority in the US Senate, Chuck Sumer, spoke in response to the vote on the resolution.

Restrictive measures against the companies of Deripaska – En + Metallurgical Holding, the aluminum producer controlled by Rusal and the energy company Eurosibenergo – were: aprovadzheni in April here 2018. In December, the US Treasury Secretary announced his intention to lift the sanctions of Deripaska companies within 30 days. The decision was made after the Russian billionaire effectively abandoned the control of these companies.

However, in early January, a group of senators appealed to the US Department of Justice to postpone the lifting of the sanctions of the companies of Deripaska. In addition, Senator Charles Sumer issued a resolution against the abolition of restrictive measures.

EU countries also called for the lifting of sanctions, saying the measures taken against Deripaska companies were wrangling in the global aluminum market, which had a negative impact on the European economy.
