The European Space Agency has published a photo of the Martian crater of Korolev, whose bottom covers almost entirely a glacier 80 km in diameter.
Crater images were published in honor of the upcoming Mars-Probe Jubilee – it came into orbit around Mars 15 years ago (December 25, 2003).
The photo was created from several shots. They were made by the HRSC camera (high resolution stereo camera), which allows you to take pictures with an extension of about 12 meters per pixel. Scientists gathered five large strips 52 km wide to create the final photo.
The diameter of the crater Korolyov is 84 km. Its bottom is covered with water ice all year, the thickness of the ice in the center of the crater can reach 1.8 km.
