Two people died and several others were injured after a branch
measuring more than 8 feet tall fell on spectators during a fireworks fire in the # 39, West of Illinois, according to the authorities. On Wednesday, the branch fell from an oak that would be about 100 years old. He fell to about 25 feet during Tuesday's "Red, White and Boom" event outside the Rock Island Courthouse

Dozens of people were sitting near the tree watching fireworks. Some of those who were not injured tried to lift the limb to free the trapped people below.

Bustos said Daniel Mendoza Sr., 61, of Rock Island was declared dead on the scene. Lawrence R. Anderson, 72, of Moline died at the hospital. Authorities did not provide the causes of death, but Bustos said autopsies were scheduled for Wednesday.

Six other people were taken to a local hospital, including a 21-year-old pregnant woman from East Moline. Bustos said that the woman gave birth and that she and her baby would be healthy.

The others were treated Tuesday night and released from the hospital. Two people in Maysville, Iowa, and their 2-year-old son were slightly injured, including facial scratches. A three-year-old boy from Bettendorf, Iowa, was treated for an alleged concussion, while a molin woman also had a concussion and alleged scrapes.

Melanie Brown Ledbetter told KWQC-TV that she was sitting about 50 meters from the tree with her family and friends, watching the fireworks.

"I was turned to my friend and I heard the creak of the tree. She said that her husband was one of those who were trying to help the people who were wounded or trapped.

"People screamed and cried," said Ledbetter. "Many people rushed to help and many people immediately packed up and fled the scene."

Bustos said his office was investigating, and he will provide an update on Thursday afternoon.
