P Resident Trump will spend Christmas in Washington due to the partial closure of the government.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Sunday that the first lady, Melania Trump, would return from Florida "so that she could spend Christmas together". Trump then tweeted the news.

On Friday, Melania and their 12-year-old son, Barron, left the nation's capital for Mar-a-Lago to continue the tradition of the family celebrating Christmas in Palm Beach .

It is not clear right away if Barron will also return to Washington with his mother.

Trump was to leave on Friday for the 16-day vacation, but he announced that he would stay at the White House while the Senate was trying to find a compromise on a bill to keep the government endowed with funds for new Year.

Earlier Friday, the Federal Aviation Administration had canceled the temporary flight restrictions imposed on the airspace around Mar-a-Lago, which had been put in place on 21 December to January 1st. 6 in anticipation of the president's visit.

Despite negotiations and a visit to Capitol Hill from senior administration officials, including Vice President Mike Pence, Democrats and some Republicans could not pass legislation providing more than $ 5 billion for construction from a wall on the US-Mexican border.

The government closes partially at midnight Friday and more than 420,000 federal workers considered "essential" will now work without pay during the closure. These employees will eventually receive a lump sum salary. Another 380,000 government employees are incarcerated and returning home without pay.

On Saturday afternoon, Trump tweeted, "I'm at the White House, I'm working hard."

Critics scolded Trump for his trip to southern Florida, where he reportedly stayed in a multi-million dollar complex, while hundreds of thousands of federal employees are on leave.

Starting Saturday, it seems that the closure will last at least four days. The Senate adjourned without an agreement in place, and legislators are not expected to return for an ordinary session until December 27.

It is not clear if an agreement was to be reached by the end of the week, if Trump would then go to Florida. Mar-a-Lago is known for having organized a sumptuous New Year's Eve party, which the President attended last year.

It is also difficult to know which other members of the Trump family are already in Mar-a-Lago.

The blue, red and gold jet of the Trump brand was spotted by a reporter on the tarmac at the Palm Beach International Airport on Friday.
