US President Donald Trump has threatened some NATO member states to not increase defense spending under the Alliance agreements
reported by the New York Times in reference to the interlocutor who saw such a letter. President Trump wrote rigorous letters to leaders of several NATO member countries, particularly Germany, Belgium, Norway and Canada, telling them that they spent little on their own defense and threatened them with the patience of the United States. In the letters, Trump recalled that some NATO member states did not increase the cost of collective defense and, as a result, could reduce the presence of US troops around the world.
According to the NYT, the President of the United States is very upset by the fact that many members of NATO do not allocate 2% of GDP to the National Defense Alliance in Wales in 2014.
