One of the first users to replace such a problem claims that it appeared in June 2018, with another client update for Android, but since then its developers have not corrected it. He notes that he wrote dozens of letters to the service desk, but that no one answered him.
Some users think that the problem of creating backups in Google Drive is the fault, because if you disable the backup in a cloud storage, continue to work fully without any problems and problems. Most likely, when creating a backup, a failure occurs, resulting in the deletion of some messages. At the same time, they can contain a wide variety of content, from simple English text to small video clips.
WhatsApp does not officially comment such information. However, every hour, history is gaining more and more publicity, already many users confirmed on Reddit that they had also lost some of their messages. The problem apparently does not affect more than 1% of the total number of users, and only a few messages are removed, while the dialogs remain. The deletion is done automatically so that some messages may never have appeared at all.
